- One of the most successful telecentre situated in Sevanagala town very rural area situated about 200 kms away from Colombo.
The business model we are following can be described as follows.
The Organization is an ICT Training Centre and following services are provided under this centre .The services can be categorized under four main areas.
1. Information Communication Technology Centre
The organization is providing all the ICT services to the area which is very rural and disadvantaged people are living. The services are as follows.
+ Telephone facilities, fax, scanning, photocopies, type setting-mail & internet facilities, web cameras, CD writing, laminating and binding as well as e-health services.
2. Computer Training Centre.
The students of the area are provided with ICT Training from this institution. There are 15 computers are available and teaching method is based on CBT (Computer Based Teaching).These courses are conducted for a very nominal charge and all the course materials are provided with free of charge. As well as Government approved certificate is offered for the successful students.
The courses available for the students are as follows.
+ Diploma in Computer Studies
+ International Computer Driving License
+ e Citizen
+ Professional ICT Programme
+ Graphic Designing
+ IT for Kids
+ IT for General Certificate Education in Ordinary Level
+ IT for General Certificate Education in Advanced Level
+ Basic ICT courses for the years 6,7,8,9,10
3. Agricultural Instruction Services
The organization is connected with main government agricultural body in Sri Lanka and using digital cameras any issue with farmers’ crops are emailed to the said authorized agricultural body with photos. Then they see the diseases from there and give instructions to the farmers over the phone. Upon this way disadvantaged rural farmers can get information of specialized people at a short time and overcome their challenges with farming. This facility is providing by the centre free of charge for the poor farmers of the area.
4. Online Job Bank
To eradicate unemployment problem in the country this web site is providing information of job opportunities available in the country in local as well as international languages. Then the unemployed youth can access to these information through Internet facilities available Nenasala Centers whole over Sri Lanka and apply for the jobs matched with their qualifications.
The organization is operated under the above four main areas and through these four ways all Information Communication Technology needs of the disadvantaged people in this area is addressed. People of this area are lacking information for their development .Eg: Farmers are lacking new agricultural information. But in urban areas there are several Medias are available for people such as libraries, government departments so on. But 98% of farmers are from rural areas and they are the people who are lacking necessary information.
Not only that we have identified that International Language is the main barrier for rural students to access for global knowledge sources. So we are conducting English classes for our students free of charge and course materials are translated to local language for easy reference of students.
As well as in each year the best scholars of the area schools are selected and offer them scholarships for their ICT Education needs. Not only that there is a scheme for selecting needy clever students of the area for scholarships.
