Dear Isura, The use of blog in Sinhalese is indeed useful. Congratulations, Jayantha for discovering the feature..,,
I am sure the techies can findout whther online forms could be created in this platform. Then, parameters suggested can be entered directly to the system.

Dear Senaka,
Yes for guiding the telecentre's on an individual basis and get to real answers we need a simple reporting mechanism. Examples information will be: How many students per week, how many internet surfers per week, their age breakdown, what is the most demanded service, and IT course, etc. Hints of information that would give an idea on the target group for each telecentre. This would be immensely helpful for us to guide as well as increase users at the telecentre.

And one imporatant thing: this site is enabled for sinhala and tamil. This was proved by Jayantha, a telecentre operator from Rathnapura

Even, an Excel sheet could be uploaded by the TC operator to the network...no emails will be reqd and will be discouraged.

What ever the form its submitted, fusion could insist that it's to be submitted via the network, because then Fusion would know, who has submitted what (because there is a record). If its done via email or post or other mechanism, there is no record.

Priyanthi....what i meant was ...TC operators should at least on a monthly basis (on a scheduled date) should submit a form to Fusion about monthly activity. The way its submitted is immaterial. If data is submitted to Fusion in an adhoc manner, it will be difficult for Fusion to manage it and make sense of it. However, if data is submitted on a routine basis, Fusion could collect data, analyze it , and produce a monthly report about previous months performance in respect of all telecenters. If performance is unsatisfactory,in respect of some telecenters, Fusion will then be able to monitor them and take corrective action, before its too late or before they have to close shop. Further thinking, design will be reqd. in respect of what exactly to be submitted and the form its submitted. This has to be done by an accountant and Isura will be able to do it.

I am continuing this discussion on Priyanthi's page, for easy reference.

An another idea that stuck me today is to have a monthly or weekly reporting requirement from Telecentre operators to Fusion. This will be a data input sheet, probably in a standardized predefined format containing data about Management, Financial and Marketing info.
Fusion could insist that this to be submitted via the network, so that Fusion could keep a track of who has submitted what.

Whether, such a reporting requirement exist in respect of all types telecentres (eg. Nenasala), I am not too sure.

This sought of activity will encourage telecentre operators to use the network on a routine basis at least in the beginning.

Hello, Priyanthi, pleased to meet you online. The previous comments were just a joke...just to encourage members to start communicating. I agree with comments of both you and Isura. So if we summarize, we have to look into following aspects.

1. Practical problems that arise due to time limitations and other responsibilities....nothing much we an do about this

2. They are more inclined to use existing modes of communication which they are used to (such as sms, voice and mail) rather than use a new mode , such as this network....This is typical human behavior and could be reversed over time by proving that use of the network is more beneficial to everyone..mere encouragement will be insufficient..measurable benefits are reqd.

3. Problems about connectivity and cost....we can assume connectivity is already there, so its a matter of costs...we can do a cost-benefit analysis

4. In addition to what u two have mentioned...language problems....This network does not support local language even if Firefox 3.0 is enabled with sinhala unicode ...am I correct Isura? I am not too sure. If this is the case its little bit problematic. However there are people who send sms's with their own dialect of English or Sinhala typed in English.

Further, we have to identify what kind of activities are more suitable or appropriate ..to be discussed over the network. We can leave the junk to SMS's and other modes.

As far as 3 of us are concerned this discussion is a good beginning.

Isura, about ICT4D models in India, i will think more and keep u posted. Probably once we have identified
our requirements, we can sit together and draft a mail.
