When I saw this 'Help' icon at TCF site, I was bit sceptical, yet I was curious to give it a try. The problem i had was not being able to see 'Sinhala fonts', (probably not a problem to many of you; but I was dumb on this).
So I turned to Help - desk. As expected - there wasnt any response (probably my time zone was not right). But I left a message in the skype.
Next day I opened the computer to see immediate response. I had a bit of a long chat - (due to my own ignorance on the subject). But…

First, sustainabilityfirst.org gave me a good insight in to current trends bout telecentre activity. Thank u again.
I am associated with Fusion as an ICT volunteer, and my current activity involves (as requested by Isura) Monitoring telecentrefamily network and assisting publishing of a handbook (guidebook), primarily targeting existing telecentre operators or anyone wishing to start a telecentre.(Community based Telecentre)
The questions are as follows.
1. As mentioned in sustainabilityfirst.org as well as other
other web research I have done so far,
Telecentre operations are internationally going through
a phase-transition from 90's donor based/Pilot era to current era of sustainability, commercialization, telecentre networks and emergence of a resilient telecentre ecosystem. Each country is in a different stage in the transition. How do we identify, exactly what stage Sri Lanka is in? This is related to the proposed handbook/guidebook.
question 2: Telecentrefamily network is about 2-3 months and members are still being added. However,
there is still lack of activity among members in using the network for problem solving or using it for the purpose it was setup. What idea's do you suggest to encourage members(specially operators) to use it more frequently and effectively?
The anticipated problems for lack of network use may be,
1. This network is not truly real-time for problems requiring real-time answers.
2. Lack of time/other responsibilities of operators.
3. Language problems. This can be solved by Firefox 3.0
Sinhala unicode.
4. Not enough attractive stuff/services in the network.
5. Internet usage costs where existing other modes are more economical such as telephone, sms.mail etc.
One attractive answer I got from Poland is, initially having some dedicated members using the network for problem solving, which will encourage others to follow.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you.
Thanx a lot 4 adding me as a frd.
Hope 2 c u sooooooooooon.
Wonder whether u remember me, we met each other at GKP Forum at Colombo.
